Building With Mission
A National Housing Strategy Solutions Lab

Partners:

Catholic Health Alliance of Canada, Catholic Health Sponsors of Ontario, Cahdco, Overlap Associates and Covenant Care

Project Description:

Building With Mission is a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Solutions Lab to advance solutions to persistent and complex housing challenges.  Our work focuses on the opportunity for mission-driven health organizations to help address the urgent need for more affordable and more supportive housing options for older Canadians.

Across the country, in large urban settings and in smaller rural communities, a wider range and greater supply of affordable housing for older adults is needed. We know that overwhelmingly Canadians want to age in their homes and communities, not in institutions. This is where health care organizations and other mission-driven non-profits have an opportunity to amplify their impact and to improve health outcomes for individuals and communities by stepping into a leadership role to advocate for and build new types of more affordable and more supportive housing for older adults.

Health organizations are uniquely positioned to drive this work forward by leveraging their under-utilized real estate assets, applying their expertise on what it takes to keep older adults independent and healthy, and leveraging their community relationships.

The Building With Mission Playbook supports mission-driven health organizations in building new, more affordable housing for older adults.  The Playbook explains and simplifies a complex process by providing an overview of the six stages of the housing conception and development process.
